STCQC held an open house for the kindergarten level last February 7, 2015 from 8:30 to 11:00 am at the school campus. It was a successful and fun-filled event for both the prospective pupils, their siblings and their parents.

The turnout was greater than expected, with more walk in clients than registered ones. True to the school’s reputation of simplicity, people from all walks of life were well-represented during the open house. There were young professionals, STC alumni, a policeman, small families, big families and more.

What was even more inspiring was the presence of several parents who were 2nd generation Theresians and their children who are about to become the 3rd generation. It was a vivid display of loyalty to STCQC that further inspired both the other parents and the faculty of the school.

The school’s tireless and beloved school directress, Sister Jo Nebres, was at the forefront to welcome all the parents and she made it a point to be accessible to all. The event was formally opened by Mrs Mendoza, the Grade School Principal who gave the welcome remarks.

Mrs Amurao , Mrs Franco, Mrs. Malulan and many other school officials were also on hand to provide assistance and to clarify any questions the parents might have.

There were activities planned for both parent and child so everyone had a great time. The parents were given an orientation and were toured around the facilities. The kinder classrooms were opened for display, but relatively untouched to show parents exactly how it would look during a typical school day.

The students’ works were on display along with their books and notebooks. Audiovisual presentations were displayed on the TVs which were present in each classroom.

In the meantime, the children spent their time inside the Learning Resource Centre. After they had a run of the place which was filled with books, videos, computer and audio visual gear they were asked to sit on the play mat inside the LRC. Here they were entertained by a storytelling session which they enjoyed immensely.

After this, it was on to the different play tables inside the LRC to have even more fun sketching and coloring. They were overseen by several kinder teachers who made sure that the children never had a dull moment. They had no idea that through all the fun, they were also learning, a theme that would repeat itself in actual kindergarten classes.

This was expertly done by the experienced teachers by skillfully integrating activities while the kids were interacting while drawing. It was to the credit of these teachers and storytellers, that no child was bored and all stayed inside the IMC.

As an additional treat for both kids and parents, National Book Store also participated in a substantial way in the open house festivities. They had an extensive display of great books which kept a lot of people browsing long after the event was over.

The open house wrapped up with an open forum where Ms. Masilungan encouraged the parents to come out and express any questions they might have about STC. These questions were answered by the officials present including Sister Nebres, Mrs Amurao, Mrs Franco, among others.

After a lengthy question and answer portion, Mrs. Franco gave the closing remarks. Followed by a closing prayer led by Ms. Ocampo.

Before everyone left, Sister Jo gave a short message to all participants and provided further words of wisdom and clarification which put the minds of all those present at ease.

It was a Saturday well spent for all those who were present.

Congratulations to all who were a part of this event.
