Some considerations for Philippine schools
Info Post
For most parents in the Philippines, one primary consideration in school choice would be religious orientation. Aside from being predominantly Catholic, there are a lot of different denominations which may limit the choices for some parents.
One other consideration would be the matter of accreditation. Aside from the REQUIRED accreditation from the Department of Education, there are other independent accrediting bodies, the presence of which bodes well for the school in question.
One such accreditation is the PAASCU or the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities.
You may be asking at this point, "why should I care about accreditation?".
Good question.
Short answer:
Because accreditation, and the level thereof is an indicator of the quality of education provided by the school.
Long answer:
Accreditation by DEC endorsed agencies means that these schools comply with the standards set forth by the agencies doing the accrediting. These standards, particularly those set forth by PAASCU, are directly related to the quality of education that the schools provide. Moreover these accreditations are not one time and the schools need to re-accredited after a certain period of time.
Also, there are several levels of accreditation wherein the higher the level, the better the school. For elementary levels, its 1 to 3 with level 3 being the highest. For higher education, its 1 to 4 with level 4 being the highest.
In another post, we will try to explain in more detail what PAASCU is and what schools we considered, based on their PAASCU rating.
